Fresh Produce Safety Training – July 24. Buy Haywood, the North Carolina Fresh Produce Safety Task Force, and Appalachian Sustainable Agriculture Project (ASAP) will offer a Fresh Produce Safety Training event in Haywood County. The training will provide research-based information on the general procedures that growers, field workers, and packers of fresh fruits and vegetables use to implement safe handling of fresh produce. These practices are called “Good Agricultural Practices” (GAP) and “Good Handling Practices” (GHP). Bele Chere Festival in Asheville – July 25-27. Look for the Buy Haywood booth at Asheville’s largest annual festival. This is a great chance to sample Haywood County produce and value-added products
Harvest begins. Start looking for Haywood County produce in Western North Carolina grocery stores and restaurants. If you don’t see it, ask for it, or check out our Try Haywood page for up-to-date sales locations. Harvest will continue until late September or early October.

Mountain Mater Fest – August 1-3. The Town of Canton expects more than 10,000 people to participate in the fourth annual Mountain Mater Fest, a weekend of entertainment, contests, food, fun, and of course, tomatoes.
