Mélange of the Mountains Culinary Gala
at Laurel Ridge Country Club

Mélange of the Mountains is Haywood’s premier culinary event launching the spring tourism season.  It is a uniquely local epicurean partnership of innovative chefs, sustainable producers, crafty microbrewers and local farms.

Visitors, from near and far, will discover that Haywood County is a vibrant and diverse destination for foodies of all ages – well worth a gold star on the regional gastronomy map!

Experience some of Western North Carolina’s most regarded restaurants, microbreweries, artisan producers and culinary talent as participants compete in categories ranging from salad to seafood to dessert.  After the competition, participants will offer expertly plated samples of specialty items inspired by their own menus and culinary point of view.

To further promote Haywood County as a culinary destination, the Gala event will extend to a Culinary Weekend filled with a wealth of specialty dinners, culinary demos, and tastings hosted by participating restaurants and other local businesses.  Each and every event is designed to provide attendees the opportunity to further become further acquainted with their favorite “local flavor” spots over the weekend.

Some events are free and open to the public while others are ticketed requiring reservations.

“Whole Bloomin’ Thing” Spring Festival
is Haywood County’s official kick-off to spring. Local growers and crafters offer a bevy of garden starts and unique, nature-related treasures. Held the Saturday before Mother’s Day, the festival offers bountiful opportunities to find the perfect gift — or to spend the perfect day with the mothers in your life. Free to the public.  Food, music, childrens’ activities.

Printed copies of the 2015 Agritourism Guide will be available at the Haywood Chamber of Commerce and Waynesville Visitor Center, both in downtown Waynesville, NC.

Cooking Uniquely Local!
at Haywood County Public Library (Waynesville Branch Auditorium)

Join Chef Jackie Blevins as she shares her years of experience and her love of cooking local.

As part of the Adult Summer Reading Program and in keeping with the theme of “Out of the Ordinary” we will be exploring unique uses for the bounty of produce we have during the summer.

On the menu is peach gazpacho to name just one of the delectable treats she will be creating!

We will be learning to make several recipes and taste testing them all. Each participant will also receive recipes to take home. This program is free but space is limited so sign up today.  Call Kathy at 356-2507 to reserve your seat at the table!

Bring Back the Monarchs
at Haywood County Public Library (Canton Branch)

Learn about the plight of Monarch butterflies with Master Gardener Jean White. Plus, Master Gardener Marcia Tate will give a tour of the Giving Garden’s Monarch butterfly garden. There will be milkweed door prizes (milkweed is the only plant Monarch caterpillars will eat). To learn more about how to save the Monarchs, visit www.monarchwatch.org.
